An insane amount of people requested me a recipe for vegan cauliflower wings, and today I finally fulfill your cravings!

This recipe is:
quick
delicious
gluten free
oil free
100% plant based

I'll be also teaching you how to make the most mouthwatering hot sauce to coat your crunchy cauliflower wings in and I will be giving you a bunch of tips and spot on substitutions in case you are missing a few ingredients.

Ready, set...cook!

How to make vegan cauliflower hot wings

Step one: the cauliflower

First we have to get our hands on a cauliflower head. Frozen cauliflower will work as well, just make sure to defrost it completely and to absorb all the liquids before using it for this recipe.

We need to portion the cauliflower into florets.

Step two: the batter.

Then we can start prepping our batter.

We want a sticky flavourful paste that can coat our cauliflower florets whilst giving them an amazing taste.

If you like you can have just battered cauliflower wings by doubling up the cooking time of this first bake. It is completely up to you.

To make our sticky batter we simply combine gluten free flour (any gluten free mix or rice flour, or even plain flour if you don't need it to be GF), with spices (salt, pepper, garlic, onion and chicken seasoning mix - vegan, of course!), baking soda and plant based milk (any milk you have available as long as it's not sweetened - I used almond milk).

Then we coat each floret into the batter, arrange on a baking tray and bake for 20 minutes at 200°C (390°F).

Step three: the hot sauce.

For this recipe I like to make the sauce from scratch, because it's easy and it's ready right after the first baking, exactly when we need to use it.

If you don't want to make your own just use any spicy sauce of your choice or just use a mix of hot ketchup and BBQ sauce (you can use the same amount of ketchup in place of the passata, water, vinegar and spices).

For those that would love to make their own hot sauce, all you need to do is to combine together all the ingredients and allow to reduce the sauce on the stove (for 15-20 minutes).

Once the hot sauce it's ready we can coat the crispy battered wings well and bake for another 20 minutes or until cooked and slightly caramelized.

Our vegan cauliflower hot wings with homemade spicy sauce are ready to be enjoyed!

Make sure to watch the video at the end of the post!

If you'd like even more flavourful wings, dip them once again into the spicy sauce and bake for an extra 5-10 minutes: they'll turn even stickier and hotter!

You can serve these simple cauliflower wings with some vegan ranch sauce or tartare sauce to mellow down the heat or dipped into the leftover homemade hot sauce if you're feeling braver!

Despite what dips you'll pick this dish will please both vegans and meat eaters, and they all will come for seconds!
